District 7 City Councilman
Proud Texan and lifelong San Antonian. As a family man and military officer, Councilman Medina reflects the values of the families he represents by focusing on investing in our neighborhoods and infrastructure, increasing public safety and supporting our first responders, enhancing our green spaces and Senior services and fostering sound business and economic development for all of San Antonio.
Now in his third term in office, Councilman Medina began his service in city government working in the office of then City Councilman and current State Representative, Justin Rodriguez. Since then, Councilman Medina has honed his public policy expertise on issues important to our city and the residents of District 7. As past Chair of the Public Safety and Intergovernmental Relations Committees, Councilman Medina worked to ensure that public safety remains a top priority at City Hall and that our City’s voice was heard in Austin and Washington. He currently serves on the Housing, Neighborhoods and Livability, and Comprehensive Plan committees.
Councilman Medina has a proud history of serving our local civic and non-profit community. He has served on the City of San Antonio’s Community Action Advisory Board, Graduated from City’s Municipal Leadership Institute, Citizens Academy and participated in the San Antonio Police Department’s Cellular on Patrol Program. He has also served as Past President of his HOA. Additionally, Councilman Medina devoted time to serving and volunteering for The Network for Young Artists, Mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and the Salvation Army’s William & Catherine Booth Senior Apartments Advisory Council.
After hearing the call to serve our country on September 11, 2001, Councilman Medina enlisted in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. His career has spanned two branches of our military with assignments at Randolph and Keesler Air Force Bases and Naval Stations Norfolk, VA and Newport, RI. He was then commissioned as a Public Affairs Officer in 2010, and currently holds the rank of Captain with the 433rd Airlift Wing’s Public Affairs Office, Lackland AFB- Joint Base San Antonio.
Through the help of the GI Bill and a supportive family, Cris holds a Masters of Public Administration from St. Mary’s University and a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He also earned an Associate of Applied Science from the Community College of the Air Force. In addition, Councilman Medina has completed courses at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School Aresty Institute of Executive Education. He is currently pursuing a second Masters, an Executive MBA in Strategic Leadership, from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
Cris is an avid musician and his wife Jacqueline, a Jefferson High School graduate and former “Lasso”, are the proud parents of two sons. They are all huge fans of our San Antonio Spurs, Missions Baseball team and country music legend and South Texas native, George Strait. Councilman Medina and his family are also active supporters of several parish and faith based communities across District 7.
